Flight Logging

Record and review flights for all aircraft in your fleet.

Logging a flight

From the dispatch board (recommended): After checking an aircraft out, return it by clicking End Flight on the dispatch board. Fill in:

  • Pilot (member name)
  • Instructor (if applicable)
  • Start and end time
  • Launch type (for gliders: aerotow, winch, auto)
  • Tow pilot (if aerotow)
  • Any notes or squawks

The flight is saved to the aircraft's log and the pilot's personal log.

Manually: Go to Admin → Flights → Log Flight to add a flight outside of the dispatch workflow — useful for backdating entries or logging off-site flights.

Viewing the fleet logbook

Go to Admin → Flights to see all flights across your fleet. Filter by aircraft, pilot, date range, or launch type. Each entry shows:

  • Date and duration
  • Aircraft and pilot
  • Charges applied (if billing is configured)
  • Any squawks filed

Pilot flight records

Members can see their own flights from Flights in their portal. Admins can see a member's full flight history from Admin → Members → [Member name] → Flights.

Editing a flight record

Admins can edit any flight from Admin → Flights → [Flight] → Edit. Common corrections: wrong duration, wrong pilot assigned, missing instructor.

Members cannot edit their own flight records — contact your admin if something is wrong.

Flight charges

If your club charges by the hour (flying clubs, academies), charges are calculated automatically when a flight is logged based on:

  • Aircraft hourly rate
  • Duration (Hobbs or Tach time)
  • Any applicable discounts

The charge is added to the pilot's account balance and appears on their next invoice.

Tow flight logging (soaring clubs)

When an aerotow is logged, Canopy creates two records: one for the glider pilot and one for the tow pilot. Each can be billed independently if configured. Tow pilots can see their own tow records from their pilot log.

Cross-country and off-field landings

For cross-country flights that end away from the home field, log them as normal but note the landing location in the flight comments. XC program tracking (badges, distance claims) is handled separately — see the XC Program guide.
